From reading the various forums it became obvious the the stock axles were not going to handle the extra power of my recently installed Kenne Bell Super Charger. This is especially true since I use drag radial at the race track which provide much more traction than standard radials. The Challenger has different size axle from left to right apparently to help prevent wheel hop (not nearly enough as this is very bad on this car).

I decided to go with the Drive Shaft Shop 1000HP axles. To construct these axles, DSS takes the stock axles and replaces the main axle section with their own chromoly axles, keeping the stock CV joints. They also offer a 1400HP axle that uses their own CV joints as well but this did not come with the ABS tone rings and I was a little worried about taking these off the original axles. This part can not be purchased separately.

Christmas 2010, I was handed a flat gift from my wife a knew it was going to be something special. Low and behold, it was a reservation for a one day class at Allen Berg racing school, formula package. These are open wheel, carbon fiber monocoque chassis, 5 speed sequential gearbox, 160hp race cars.

Allen Berg offers this school at four different locations, Edmonton AB, Calgary AB, Willows CA, and Palm Springs CA. I chose the Willows CA location at the Thunderhill Raceway partially because I was worried about the weather in the other locations (Rain in Canada, and too hot in Palm Springs) but mainly because I found the track layout to be most appealing. Its a long track with high speed turns and some great elevation changes.

I found out that they offered a two day program a decided that if I was going to go all this way for a school I may as well go all out. I upgraded to the two day program and reserved my spot for the May 11, 12 school.

Power, you always want more. Being a 4000lbs car the Challenger needs a powerful engine to get the 1/4 mile time I was hoping for. I did manage to pull off a 12.91 but most of my times were in the 13.3 range. I was hoping to get to low 12s and possibly high 11s. I started looking into power adder options even before I purchased the car. I looked at various centrifugal superchargers, NOS systems, and even Turbos. There was a lot of aspects that affected my decision. I wanted at least 150HP gain but I also wanted whatever addition to look decent. I also wanted it to allow the car to pass the emission testing we have in BC.

I was at the Mission drag strip quite often last year. I experimented with a few different tunes to get the most out of my 6.1. I decided that I needed to get a wide band O2 sensor in order to monitor my air fuel ratio.

I ended up purchasing an Innovate LC-1 wide band O2 system. This unit came with an O2 sensor and a small ECU module. It has two analog outputs that correspond to the measured AFR reading. It also has a serial output for data logging.
